The Lumineers Debut "Gale Song"

Newgrass group The Lumineers, featured on the upcoming Catching Fire soundtrack, recently debuted "Gale Song" at a live show in Marymoor Park in Seattle.

From 107.7theend in Seattle:

It’s not every day you get to use the phrase “world exclusive”, but that’s truly what The Lumineers were cool enough to suprise us with during our complete broadcast of their live set at Marymoor Park last Saturday. While initially it went unknown whether the song debuted in their encore was to be featured on their new album or was simply a something the band had drummed up while on tour, we can now confirm the track will appear on the forthcoming Hunger Games:Catching Fire soundtrack alongside The National, Coldplay, and Imagine Dragons, announced today. Bearing the title “Gale Song” the tune is a fragile and soft, slow builder which grows to an immense emotional peak before settling once again. If it’s any indication of The Lumineers direction, the band are certianly set reprise themselves with one of the most heartfelt records of the year.

You can also listen here!

Edit to add: The radio station has removed the link to the live recording on their website, presumably at the request of Lionsgate.

What a sad song! "And all this too shall pass.."

Photos from the filming of Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2 are finally starting to trickle in, and yesterday saw the surfacing of both Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth - with Liam sporting what is believed to be the uniforms worn by those in District 13!

We have to admit these photos are slightly bittersweet, though ... it's the beginning of the end!

New 'Catching Fire' Character Portraits in October Vanity Fair

October's Vanity Fair includes a feature on Catching Fire, including some never-before-seen portraits of Katniss, Peeta, Effie, Gale, and Finnick shot by Lionsgate CMO, Tim Palen.

Jennifer Lawrence Vanity Fair October 2013

The Hunger Games films may have begun as Suzanne Collin’s hugely popular trilogy of books aimed at young adults, but with a new director and a star who scored the best-actress statuette at this year’s Oscars, the second installment of this blockbuster franchise is all grown up.

“One of the big overarching themes for all the books is this idea of the consequences of war, and one of the unfortunate consequences of war is post-traumatic stress,” explained Francis Lawrence, who directed The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, out this November. In this movie, not only have young leads Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson aged nearly two years, but also their characters, Katniss and Peeta, have returned to their home district haunted by what they’ve seen and done. “That’s one of the first things you see in the movie,” the director adds. “They’re changed people because of having been in the Games.”

The Games is the annual event that unites the 12 districts of the fictional nation of Panem. Twenty-four teens are chosen to battle to the death using a variety of weapons in a gruesome display meant to cow the populace. Only when it became their turn to kill or be killed in the earlier film, Katniss and Peeta broke the rules - and for the first time there were two victors. This act of defiance sparked a rebellion in the districts, and in Catching Fire Peeta and Katniss must struggle with their roles as unwilling icons - not to mention taking another round in the arena against other previous champions.

Those new foes include Jena Malone, Amanda Plummer, Jeffrey Wright, Lynn Cohen, and a sensuous and tricky Sam Claflin. They expand an enviable ensemble that already featured Donald Sutherland as the nefarious president of Panem, Elizabeth Banks as Katniss and Peeta’s increasingly self-aware chaperone, and Liam Hemsworth as a young miner who competes with Peeta for the affections of our heroine. The director - no relation to his star - describes the group as “The sort of fantastic actors that you empathize with, that you feel a warmth for.” That is, until they start trying to kill one another.”

Liam Hemsworth-Palooza: More From His Appearances This Week

If you are a Liam Hemsworth lover, this is YOUR week. The boy is all over New York City promoting his upcoming movie Paranoia. Lucky for us, everyone is asking him about Catching Fire!

He called into Seacrest Monday and talked a little bit about Catching Fire at the 5:35 mark. Liam didn’t divulge much, but he did admit: “It’s developing more, but it’s also still very confusing. Gale is trying to work out what’s going on and [Katniss is] trying to stay alive still. You get to see a bit more of the fight inside Gale come out.

"Suzanne Collins said to me once on-set…’You know after the first movie I really wanted to have more of Gale in the movies. I love the character and love what you’ve done with him’."

He also rang the NASDAQ closing bell on Tuesday, August 6th:

Liam was a guest on The Daily Show in Tuesday, Aug 6th:

Liam Hemsworth on Gale: "His Stuff Is More In The Third" Hunger Games Film

video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo player

HitFix sat down with Liam Hemsworth to talk about his upcoming film, Paranoia. They spoke a bit about Catching Fire and Liam talks about Gale and says that his "stuff is more in the 3rd one, actually."

From HitFix:

The Hemsworths, though, are just these two charming giants, Australian boys who obviously drank their milk. Liam's been working like a madman for the last few years, and I think it' s safe to say that at this point, the biggest thing he's ever booked was his role as Gale in The Hunger Games. In that first film, it doesn't really seem like much of a break for an actor, and I asked him when we sat down to talk about "Paranoia" if it felt good to finally jump in for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

After all, the new trailer for the film features what seems to be a pretty big couple of moments for Gale, and I seem to remember his character playing a larger role in the second book.

You'll see Hemsworth's response here, and it sounds to me like he really doesn't get to take center stage now until the third and fourth film. That's got to be tough as an actor, basically playing a supporting supporting supporting role while waiting for the future chapter of the story where you get to finally show everyone why you were cast in the first place.

Watch: Liam Hemsworth Talks 'Catching Fire' and Jennifer Lawrence

Liam Hemsworth for Bench Clothing
Liam Hemsworth was in Manila, Philippines as an ambassador for Bench Clothing. He talked about The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and confirmed the whipping scene! Gale, we're sorry (but not sorry) to say we're THRILLED we'll get to see one of the most pivotal moments of Catching Fire on screen.
“My character [Gale] gets whipped in this one. So I spent a couple of days on my knees getting whipped, which was pretty horrific.”
On The Hunger Games: Catching Fire:
“There’s a whole lot of great stuff in Catching Fire. The characters are developing more; (director) Francis Lawrence had a whole new take on it.
Liam also talked about Jennifer Lawrence and confirms what we already know, she's amazing.
“She’s one of the most energetic, fun-loving people I’ve ever met. Working with her on set is just easy because she’s so good and she’s just won all these huge awards so congratulations to her for that. She’s amazing.
