'Catching Fire' Wins at the MTV Movie Awards

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire took home 3 Golden Popcorn statuettes at the MTV Movie Awards tonight in Los Angeles! Sadly, even with ALL of your hard work to vote Katniss in as Favorite Character, Tris ended up taking the category. We know who OUR favorite character is though, right tributes? #KatnissForever

Movie of the Year: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Best Male Performance: Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark

Best Female Performance: Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen

Josh gave a little tribute to Philip Seymour Hoffman in his acceptance speech for Catching Fire saying, "I know that if Philip were here, he would think this is really cool. To have him in our movies was one of the coolest things in the world. He’s one of the actors I’ve looked up to my entire life. We think about him every day on set. Wherever he is, this definitely goes out to him as well."

Another fantastic interview: Josh and Sam talk to MTV's Josh Horowitz backstage. Whoops, nice spoiler Josh. "You're dead."

Raw footage of the press room at the MTV Movie Awards. Sam and Josh come in around 10:47 and then Josh is photgraphed alone immediately after until about 13:40. Watch with the sound off to avoid the screaming paps:

Your next question is probably, "When is the Mockingjay teaser trailer coming?" Ours, too! I wish we knew for sure. Nothing about a trailer has been officially confirmed as of press time. The only information we have at this point is from the article we posted back in Jan in which the Mockingjay team discusses the marketing plan and confirms the Cannes Film Festival as a place where at least SOMETHING from Mockingjay marketing will be revealed. We'll keep you updated!

Jena Malone Fangirls Over 'Catching Fire' As Much As We Do!

Concept sketch of Johanna Mason's chariot costume in Catching Fire

Jena Malone recently spoke with Jarett Wiesleman of BuzzFeed about the release of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire on Blu-Ray and DVD on March 7th. “Can I just fangirl out for a second?”she asked before talking about the Blu-ray as though she were one of its many admirers as opposed to one of its stars. “There is so much behind-the-scenes footage. We had so much fun on Catching Fire that I’m just excited to sit down and watch.”

Buzzfeed also has an exclusive behind the scenes Catching Fire clip all about Johanna's look. You can watch the video HERE.

“I learned so much about myself through playing Johanna. I knew I had strength as an actor, but Johanna taught me how incredibly strong I could be emotionally, that I could intimidate an entire room with just the energy I walked in with. You can really do some damage through how you carry yourself in life.”

And thanks to her 16-year-old sister, Malone is also aware of the powerful role movies play in shaping the next generation. “My sister really looks to cinema for a lot. Whether it’s purposely or subconsciously, it’s partly how she learns to be good at this or bad at that, how she learns about body issues, and how she learns to deal with friends,” she explained.

That’s why Malone wants every character she plays to have purpose, whether it’s within the film world or the real world. “At the end of the day, film has such an eternal shelf life — my movies will last longer than I’m going to last, so I might as well be making things I think are important, playing women I find inspiring, and playing characters that I would want my children to look up to.”

As a longtime fan of The Hunger Games book series, Malone chased the role of Johanna, recognizing that with its underlying themes of social equality, Catching Fire had much more on its agenda than pure, popcorn pleasures. And LGBT equality is a cause close to Malone’s heart since she grew up with two moms.

“The message of the film is amazing,” she continued. “As a society, we’re much further than where we were when I was younger and I love that people are so much more accepting and loving. Families can focus on just giving love now. That’s the most important thing. I think that’s an incredible time to be a part of.”

Now, after nearly two decades in this business, Malone is preparing her next big endeavor: releasing an album with her band The Shoe on June 3. “I think every young woman should constantly be wanting to surprise herself and constantly be pushing herself until the day she dies,” she said. “I will always be a storyteller, and I’m just excited there are now so many different ways I will get to tell my stories.”

Catching Fire is available March 7th!

Catching Fire Makes Massive Contribution to A Bumper Year For Hollywood

Catching Fire makes $800 million worldwide

According to Yahoo Movies UK, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has made a more than significant contribution to what seems a bumper year for Hollywood.

2013 will be the most successful in commercial terms for Hollywood in its entire history, with the takings in the United States alone exceeding any figure ever achieved. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has made a massive contribution to the roughly $11 billion worth of takings that Hollywood managed in 2013, the biggest in the history of cinema in the United States.

The second Hunger Games movie has been a significant part of this success story, with the US takings for the Francis Lawrence directed movie nearing $400 million. The film will finish 2013 as the second most successful movie of the year in commercial terms, and may yet top the $1 billion barrier worldwide which was considered an extremely optimistic and ambitious target for the movie.

Additionally, the performance of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire worldwide has been excellent, with the film penetrating major markets all over the globe. For example, it was announced this week that Catching Fire was the second most successful movie in Australia this year, just passing the third movie on the list, Despicable Me 2, with literally days left in the calendar year.

After initially experiencing something of a soft landing in the Far East, Catching Fire has also started to make good money in Japan, which has helped the movie exceed the $400 million in international takings, and the $800 million overall. Catching Fire remains in the top five or six movies in most countries in the world, showing that is has been an extremely durable performer.

With takings in Hollywood having sunk in recent years, the excellent takings from 2013 will be a great relief to studios who now have to compete with a multitude of other entertainment. With Catching Fire having done so well in 2013, it will be hoped that Mockingjay makes a similarly big splash next year.

'Catching Fire' Gets an Early PG-13 Rating

No surprises here, but The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has been given a PG-13 rating from the MPAA according to Rope Of Silicon. The reason for the rating was lengthy:

Rated PG-13 For intense sequences of violence and action, some frightening images, thematic elements, a suggestive situation and language.
Release Date: November 22, 2013
A suggestive situation, hmmmm? Let's guess which scene that is (I'm looking at you, Johanna).
The exciting thing about this to US is that SOMEONE HAS SEEN THE ENTIRE MOVIE!!!!
Thanks to our follower Steph Johnson (@Midwest1989)  for the excellent tip!
